Past Maze Designs...

The Bickleigh Mill Logo. This design was chosen to put the maze at Bickleigh, Tiverton on the map. It was an elaborate design to hopefully encourage people to come and get lost again and again.

The Little Red Tractor. This is the logo for the British Farm Standard. The aim was to promote British farming and to increase the awareness of the meaning and use of the LRT on produce to signify its British origins. This was done with the help of the NFU who provided interesting facts and figures about farming. A hot air balloon was launched on a tether since Foot and Mouth restricted them landing on farmland across the county. A great aerial picture as obtained from the basket at the full height of the tether. A new addition to this years maze was the challenge of finding ink stamps hidden in the maze. If you never managed to find the letters for this year, the word was MAZE.

The Golden Jubilee. For this design we had to seek permission from the Queen to use the official emblem for the Golden Jubilee. She very kindly granted us the necessary permission, and the maze proved to be very popular with the public. The maze was clad in bunting and many Union Jacks across the 10 acre field. A bridge was built to view the design from above and maze go-ers could be seen getting very lost. The ink stamps hidden in the 500,000 stalks of maize spelt GOLD this year.

South West Peninsula. This year we invited the public to literally get lost in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset. The coastal footpath could be walked in under 10 minutes! There were book readings held in the maze, with the help of Tiverton library, which the kids really enjoyed. The word was TREASURE this year, since the variety of maze with the same name was used and the design was a treasure map.

The Olympics. This year we celebrated the Olympics in style with the 5 interlocking Olympic rings for the design this year. Many visitors enjoyed the Olympic challenge and collected their Gold medal when they had found all the letters hidden on the paths. The word this year was ATHENS! It was once again fantastic to have people far and wide some spending the whole day having fun in the riverside field in beautiful Bickleigh.

Trafalgar. This years design commemorated the Battle of Trafalgar, which was done in conjunction with Sea Britain 2005 celebrations. The design featured Lord Nelson and the Coat of Arms of HMS Victory. New for this year were brass rubbings, a tower to look down on fellow maze go-ers, a mini bale maze for toddlers, and you could even have your photo taken as Lord Nelson! When all the brass rubbings were found, Nelson's famous phrase was revealed- "England expects that every man will do his duty"

Brunel. The theme was designed around the famous Victorian engineer and inventor Isambard Kingdom Brunel, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his birthday. The design depicted some of his lifetime achievements, including the Tamar Bridge at Plymouth, the SS Great Britain now at dry dock in Bristol and the Great Western Railway.

Baden Powell. The 2007 theme commemorated the Centenary Year of Scouting. The Scouting Movement started in 1907 by Robert Baden Powell who held the first camp on Brownsea Island in Poole harbour, Dorset, launching a worldwide phenomenon. Since then, millions of children have found friendship and fun by joining the Scouts. There have been many famous scouts for example Richard Hammond, Ross Kemp, Ray Mears, David Beckham, to name a few. Today there are 28 million Scouts spread across the globe.
